For teacher appreciation week, I emailed Ms. Miller, to ask her a series of questions about her education and teaching career.
Q: What college did you go to?
A: Kent State University
Q: Did you originally want to teach what you teach now when in college?
A: No, I started in graphic design but realized I enjoyed it more as a hobby.
Q: What made you decide to start teaching?
A: I’ve always enjoyed reading, writing, and helping people learn. I figured, why not combine those interests and become a teacher? It has worked out well!
Q: What ended up bringing you to teach here?
A: My significant other grew up nearby. I was always out in this area over the weekends to visit him, so when an open position came up, I immediately applied and everything fell into place from there!
Q: How long have you been teaching at Clearview?
A: This is my fourth year.
Q: What do you like most about teaching?
A: So many things! Here are a few: interacting with a diverse group of students, seeing the growth students make throughout the year, and being able to share my humor and enthusiasm with others.
Q: What inspires you most?
A: Observing other people who are really good at what they do. I watch and think, “I want to do that!”
Q: Do you pick favorites?
A: As with anything, there are certain students I “click” with more than others but that does not affect how I grade or treat anyone.
Q: What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of school?
A: Everything. Hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming, fishing, gardening, art, playing instruments when I have time, writing, and there are probably more.
Q: Favorite food? Music? Anything else?
A: Chipotle, classic rock, and Rock On!
