Interview of JV and Varsity Baseball Teams

By A.Lien

I interviewed a member of each baseball team. The first person I interviewed was a varsity sophomore named Dakota Stout. I talked to him after school hours, in person, and he was very eager to be interviewed. He is number 99 and plays as a pitcher, right outfield, or first base.

A: What are some things about baseball you like?

D: Dingers! Definitely when you hit the ball hard, you get that certain feeling that you can’t explain.

A: Is there anything new with the team since last year?

D: There’s a lot of freshman. I feel like the chemistry is better, and we got new uniforms. We’re better this year, I’m telling you.

A: Do you feel confident about your team?

D: Yeah, totally. I feel super confident. The only problem is our pitcher. But I think we can go somewhere and do something this year.

A: What match ups are you looking forward to?

D: Columbia, I’m ready to play Columbia.

A: Are there any teams you think you’ll have a challenge with?

D: Firelands.

A: Is there anything that’s could hurt the team?

D: Staying consistent, we like to argue about things a lot.

A: Do you feel confident about your team?

D: Yeah, totally. I feel super confident. The only problem is our pitcher. But I think we can go somewhere and do something this year.

Next I interviewed another sophomore, Seth Hancock. He is number 8 on the Junior Varsity team, and plays second base. I communicated with him through text, so the format of questions/answers are slightly different.

A: Is there anything about baseball, the sport in general, that you like?

S: Everything really. Just really love playing.

A: Is there anything new about the team this year?

S: Lots of Freshmen. Everybody but 3 people on the team are Freshmen.

A: Sounds like there’s a lot of new talent this year then.

S: There is.

S: Alright. Gotta go play. Text you when we’re done

(After a few hours, Seth texted me back as his game ended.)

A: Is there anything with the team itself that might bring it down?

S: Ourselves. If we get down on ourselves and start putting our heads down that kills us. We have to keep a positive attitude no matter what.

A: And lastly, do you feel confident about the team?

S: Yeah. I feel that if we play as a team and cut down on  errors that we can put up a good fight against any team.

A: Alright Seth, that’s all I’ve got for the questions. Thank you for the time!

S: No problem, journalist!
